Happy Thanksgiving! 24 Nov, 2006

Hello family and friends,
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. It seems like everything should be a lot weirder than it is--being away from home for the holidays. I guess that's because I haven't been home for Thanksgiving for quite a few years. Maybe Christmas will be harder.

This was my only Thanksgiving on my mission and it flew by. They switched our P-day to Thursday so we wouldn't have to proselyte, but then all the stores were closed so we couldn't do any of our normal stuff. Thus, we get to email today--on Friday. The sisters in Kent slept over at our house so they could use the washers in our apartment. We realized our key is to all 7 of the laundry rooms so we could get it all done at once. And to think we've been doing it one load at a time for 5 months. Since we had no errands to run we went on a walk around Ravenna and played nerf baseball in a field for a few minutes. It was a beautiful day here--short sleeves even!

We were invited to a members house (the Garvins_ for dinner and they had over 40 family members there. Craziness but very neat. We had another dinner we said we'd go to with the Morrisons- some friends from where we do service. (Mom, the same ones who brought you my suitcase home) We thought that would we a good opportunity so we accepted and we ended up having two consecutive dinners. I actually wasn't that full but Sister Holman was. Oops. It was fun though. We were actually going to stop by an investigators house for dessert but there was no way, so we're going there today. And to teach them of course.

There's really a whole lot of stuff I want to say but I fear I won't have time. Eesh. Maybe I'll try and give brief summaries.

First, Sister Holman and I were made for each other. We were best friends from the first few seconds we met. She is from Salt Lake City. We realized that we were in the same ward at BYU for a little bit and she came to our Halloween party before she knew us. Who knew we'd be mission companions someday. It's been really fun and we've got lots of good things in store for this area. It's ready to sky rocket.

CJ's baptism was amazing. For the two days prior there was so much opposition and we didn't know why. She's 8, it's no big deal right? I don't think I've ever felt the spirit so strong as it was during her confirmation. Her grandparents, father and brother who are not members were there to support her and she was given a lot of promises that I know where not coming from Bro. Ginther who confirmed her. As she continues to be faithful she is going to do a whole lot of good for her family and for the church, I have no doubt. I'm anxious to see what the Lord has in store for her.

Jon & Kathy are still doing well although they won't be baptised this week. Jon says he can find a way to do without green tea, probably substituting it for ginger tea. He is doing a lot of research on the church in all aspects and throws questions at us mostly to see how we'll handle it. I've learned to be really straight forward about everything because he usually has done the research and knows the answer already. He made us gingerbread men too. Kathy brings up a few concerns but they are easily resolved. They are telling their friends and family that they are going to join our church and encounter some opposition but they say it doesn't sway them at all. They're great.

We are teaching Lynn tonight. We have stopped by and talked briefly times but never officially. Things always get in the way. This last week his wife got really sick and will die soon and he found out he has terminal lung cancer. He knows we are sent from God and wants to know more about God in the time he has. He's amazing and I know will be baptized.

We also are re-teaching Jeremy & Stacy and they're 3 kids. Also brother and his wife Shawn and Kay. They have always been excited about church but work got too busy for them. They are now ready and we will be teaching them tonight too. Their kids get so excited about Jesus and everything we teach.

Oneal, our neighbor is amazing. She watches out the window for when we get home and is always concerned about us being out too late.
She's the mother of her church--Baptist, but can tell everything we share is true. She is very intune with the spirit and can tell we're telling the truth but she is 90 and says she is too old to switch churches. Good things will happen there.

That's all I really have time for now. The field is white, especially in Ravenna. Thanks for all you thoughts and prayers. I can feel them.

Love always,
Sister Salisbury
