Crazy! Time flies.
Transfers are tomorrow and we're turning over a new leaf in Ravenna. Sis. Olney and I are splitting up. I feel like I've written "Sisters Salisbury & Olney" 10 million times, and i probably pretty much have. We've been here for 4.5 months. They've really been making a change and keeping people in the same area for a long time. I was actually thinking she'd stay another transfer and make it an even 6 months, but i was wrong.
Tomorrow I will be picking up Sister Holman who is one neat sister. I've met her once or twice. She has the same shoes as me, but hers are at home and a different color-- but that means we kinda think alike, which is a good thing right? Sister Olney is going to Mentor which is right next to Kirtland. That will be fun for her. I want to serve in one of those close-to-historic cities, like Hiram or by Kirtland, but who knows if I will. Ravenna's cool. I should take pictures so you can see how almost ghetto the city is. Some of the Elders call it "Ratty Ravenna" which it kindof it, but I love it. I'm supposed to be here. I feel that a lot as I walk around the city.
Sister Bradshaw who is serving in my ward in Kent is also leaving. She's going to Solon which I don't really know where it is. So we're going to have 2 new sisters in the Rootstown Ward. That'll be adventurous.
Within the first week and a half that Sis. Holman will be here we will have 3 baptisms. That's always encouraging when you go into a new area. CJ Brocketts baptism will be this Sunday. We've thrown her through all kinds of loops because no one knew if she was supposed to be a convert baptism or a child of record. Her mom joined the church last year and she is 8, but she was never put on the records. She got her interview from the bishop, but then we figured out she would be a convert, so had to get interviewed by our district leader. Then we had to teach her all the lessons one week before her baptism. We just reviewed them really quickly and have one more to teach her. She's been a trooper though and is really excited to be baptised.
Jon & Kathy are still working towards their baptism. I hope all continues to go well. We taught them the Word of Wisdom yesterday and they're willing to keep everything...except they don't believe us about green tea. He says everything he doesn't have a problem with, but if green tea is not okay then he's really going to have a problem. Theirs is special...imported direct from China and they say it's the same as herbal and they couldn't mean it to be included in "hot drinks". He's going to research it. Anyone know of any substances that have the same benefits of green tea? It's supposed to be a natural dieuretic and help with weight loss... and probably some other things. I think this will be a great opportunity to make him exercise his faith. How much of the other things did we not know the disadvantages of when the Word of Wisdom was revealed. It'll work out.
One funny thing about Jon. When we taught them with the Derby's the bishop mentioned that the Book of Mormon isn't the real name of the book. It's the stick of Joseph. He then explained Ezekial 37 and how it's fulfilling that prophesy. Anyway, Jon really liked that, and then the next time we taught him he would correct us when we would refer to the Book of Mormon, and say, "the stick of Joseph." He says we should call it that when we meet people because it's a lot more representative of what it is.
Quick updates on our others:
Dave read some of the Book of Mormon. It was a new experience since Catholics don't read scriptures. He says "it's different" but I think he secretly likes it. He says what we teach isn't really what he believes but he still wants us to come over and teach Hannah. She reads her book too. I had a dream that her and her friends watched one of the Living Scriptures movies about Nephi and were telling us all about it. I remember being really impressed that they learned a lot from it... but then i remembered I don't have those movies, so it must have been a dream. Hannah makes lots of Build-a-Bears, and yesterday I told Hannah about Chunky Monkey. He's my stuffed monkey that my sisters made me. He has a missionary outfit so I figured i'd bring him along so he could fulfill his mission too. Anyway, Hannah wants Chunky Monkey to have a sleepover at her house next week. That'll be fun for him. Maybe I'll make her take pictures so I can know how it goes.
Sandy Cartwright has learned and accepted everything we have to teach. She is reading all the Conference talks from October and last April. Plus Our Search for Happiness and the scriptures of course. She has still decided to wait until she moves to AZ(which is next week) and then she will be able to start going to church out there-- and be baptized of course. I really think she will pursue it there. One of her daughters has a good friend there that's Mormon that she'll hopefully be able to get a hook up with.
We met some new people this week that are quality. Lynn Horner (a referral from an old investigator), Oneal Brett (our new neighbor), and Amy Senter (tracting), Mary Voelker (tracting), and a few others. We'll be teaching them this week and I'm excited. Sue Miller (recent convert) has been coming to a lot of lessons with us and it's been really good for both parties. Turns out she knows the majority of Ravenna since she's grown up here and everyone has connections here.
Anyway, that's it for now. Enjoy the Pre-Thanksgiving season.
Love ya all,
Sister Salisbury
