A lot of you have probably been able to find your name and take it home as one of your favorite souvenirs. Others out there are like me, and they NEVER have your name, or even your nickname that you wouldn't mind having on a keychain, or a magnet if that's the case.
The closest mine ever gets is Ruth, and that's still pretty rare. Never in my life though, have I been called Ruth for anything more than people not wanting to waste the energy it takes to finish calling my name. And I know it's not THAT different, but I've never felt like that was my name. It's completely different in my head.
Anyway, this has apparantely resulted in me getting really excited whenever hearing my name or seeing something with my name on it. It's usually the most exciting when it's not ME they're referring to and I know there's someone else out there that's enjoying my name also.
There's always of course the little girl Ruthie off of Seventh Heaven, which I would sometimes watch just for the thrill of hearing people say my name when it wasn't for me. It's a new feeling.
Today I was browsing a website online and I found another one and I thought I share with you some of the items that I've found that have brightened my days.1) First, right next to our mission office and near my apartment in Ohio was this store:

I think it was actually out of business by the time I got there, but the sign stayed up for awhile and it made me happy every time I drove past it.
2) Another I found while browsing my (past) roommate Sharon's mom's bridal outlet blog. This one isn't quite the same because a lot of the dresses have our roommates names, so I think this is technically me-Ruthie, but still, I didn't expect it.
The "Ruthie" Dress
3) And finally the one I found today. Not named after me. Someone else definently just knew Ruthie an awesome name and should be used.
The "Ruthie" Shirt
Who knew. Such pleasant surprises.
And to wrap it up-- some last names stories.
In the past:
1) Salisbury Steak always made me feel special. I won't deny sometimes gazing in the freezer isle and feeling special that people eat stuff with "my" name on it.
2) Salisbury Homes erupted in Utah and I loved driving by their signs.
3) Just the other day I got excited driving under a Salisbury Road sign. There's was one on my mission that we drove by on the way to the Stake center and I always loved that too.
I guess it would be pretty cool as well if some of these things were actually attributed TO me, but I've seldomly experienced that so for now, we'll thrive on other people's successes.
And now, I'm just beginning to develop an excitement for seeing my new n
ame. Here's one that I'm proad to be apart of.
It's delicious, and Target sells is now!

I totally forgot that those chocolates were called Ritter...we used to get them for our Wednesday day trip lunches when I was in London. Yes they are good!
I like our name too...In fact, I still wear our "I belong to...the Salisbury Stake" shirt.
I completely understand your reason for thrilling at your own name. Marianne isn't a common name either (it's NEVER at those keychain booths either- I still check, and yet, they always have Marian, like from Robin Hood. C'mon, are there really more Marians out there than Mariannes?), so I always get excited when I hear it. I've always loved that Marianne Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility shares my name AND spells it the same. There's a part of me that thinks Jane Austen named her after me, despite the fact that Austen is 200 years older than me. I think the only place I would ever see a Svedin anything is in Sweden or possiblity Minnesota. I hear there are a lot of Swedish immigrants there. As for Orton, when Joel and I went to Mexico a few years ago we were walking around the mall, and there was a random store called Van Orton. We took a picture. Fun idea for a post. I very much enjoyed it.
This was fun to read Ruthie!
I often pass by Ruthie's Diner and smile and think of you. :) I keep meaning to take a picture too. Darn, you could have used it in this post. Also: there is a little girl around here whose name is Ruthie and i love to call her that and weirdly, she looks a lot like you too. I will try not to call her "little Rus" and freak/weird out her parents.
I know how you feel, my name is never on anything, so I don't even bother looking. At least yours pops up occasionally. I haven't noticed any Ruthie signs, but now I probably will. Miss you
mmm...I love our chocolates! I wish they sold them out here in Idaho, but we don't even have any targets. :( Allwell I'll have to wait till I'm back in D.C. But good choice on choosing your newish last name, I quite enjoy it!
