Well Hello,
All is well in Ohio. We did have the baptism of Susan Miller and it was a success. There was a few things we had to wrap up, such as lack of appropriate clothing, but we pulled it together. And it only required 2 dunks, as opposed to George's 7 :). It was the dresses fault this time. She had a few friends come from the Hiram ward and they helped out with the program, and the refreshments. Sis. Olney gave the talk on Baptism and me on the Holy Ghost. They were both good I must say.
We were worried for a second about having to postpone Jim Timberman's baptism, but it's still on for this Saturday. A bunch of people in the ward organized a phone tree and mass email to get the word out since we didn't know if we should announce it for sure before sunday. It's funny though because he owns a white corvette and whenever we go to anyone's house to teach, or basically wherever we are that's the first question out of their mouth..."so, is that your corvette..."Then we have to sit through a not always brief conversation about what it has in it lah dee dah. He's excited for his baptism though and it's fun to have two in a row. He came to Sue's and was watching intently for everything that went on. So far it looks like that for this one the baptisee will actually have friends and family there. He says his daughter, granddaughter and son in laws or something will be there and they're all excited. Also, he got permission to bring his granddaughter (age 4) to church everyother week so he won't run the risk of missing church when he's babysittting her.
Oh, also I found out that someone we were working with in Rocky River is doing great. Her name was, and is..., Sharon Ray. She was a relatively new member but hadn't been to church in forever. We were teaching her granddaughter then started re-teaching her the lessons. She had been coming to church off and on but was striving to work toward getting her patriarchal blessing. Then the bishop forgot about her appointment and she got offended... Anyway, Sis. Rios said she got her blessing and is now working towards going to the temple. That was always her goal from the very beginning because her husband passed away and she wanted to be sealed to him. She had basically lost hope of that ever happening when we met her but she's come SO far and I know she's going to do it. Before I left I told her that I'd come to it, so I hope I really get to. It'll be about the same time I get home...I think. Ah, the joys of missionary work. It's amazing.
So, there was this really neat article in the Church News relatively recently. I don't know how on-time we get them, but it was the last one we got. But...it was a story about a mission in North/South Dakota and how they did really well after PMG was released, mostly because of member involvement. They'd come to a whole lot of lessons, and I guess the article was cool because it gives me hope that we will be able to get the members excited and involved in the work--and doing their own work. I think these two baptisms are really helping though, people can see that we're working and having success. Especially Sue because people knew her from high school and now can see her joining the church.
It was actually cool though because we were wanting Jim to meet people in Elders Quorum so we called around and ended up calling this one family to see if we could teach at their house. Then he called back and said that morning he had just been praying to have someone to share the gospel with that was ready. Him and Jim really hit it off although Jim's the age of his dad...but he was really glad to have that opportunity. It all works out and cool stuff happens.
Well, that's all I've got time for today.
Oh, and in respect for my dad, for old times sakes--this week's
Road Kill Tally is:
Opossum 3
Racoon 2
URK (unidentified Roadkill) 7
Frog 1.
(My dad and I used to keep track on road trips and it seems like Ohio has an abundance of everything.) And that's really only a couple days worth. I'll see if I can get a whole weeks worth for ya:)
I'm out,
With love, Sister Ruthanne Salisbury
