July 26, 2006

I'm really liking Ravenna although I don't like having to re-learn everything about the area. Like how to get places, location of stores, who we're teaching... all those things that take time and make you feel like you don't belong. Once you know the ropes you get transferred. Man. Maybe they'll start keeping me in areas for a long time. This one Elder was in the same place for over 9 months! But he was spanish speaking and there's not too many of those areas so I guess that's why.

Anyway, here's a few cool things about being in Ravenna:
1) I get to work at a soup kitchen. For those of you that I've told, which probably isn't many, I've wanted to volunteer at one for a really long time. I tried finding some over Christmas break but I never found a close one. I always envisioned myself serving something with a ladle. Then when I got here Sis. Olney said we volunteer at a Christian Cupboard called the Center of Hope twice a week. They serve meals and stuff but our job is usually working in the back and putting non-perishable stuff in bags to be picked up. But coincidently on my first day they were short people and I got to serve the food! I just had tongs to serve bread, but pretty close to my dream. It's really cool to go there and see all the people that come in, and the owners really appreciate our help. It's a neat place.

2) There's super awesome corn fields. I know I've seen them before but they just seem so much cooler out here. They go on for miles and miles until all you can see is the row of trees along the sky line. The coolest one is right behind our church building so I get to look at it alot. My batteries keep dying whenever I want to take a picture so I still don't have one of it, but I will soon. I don't know how they get everything is such perfect rows.

3) I got to work at a fair. With real cows and pigs. The stake was having an Emergency Preparedness booth on encouraging 72-hour kits. It was the coolest booth there too-the lady bought a real backdrop for tradeshows. Like the big black things with magnetic pieces and everything sticks with velcro. Anyway, everyone was impressed. Sadly though, we went yesterday morning--the first day, and there was pretty much no one there. They wouldn't let us "solicit" outside of our booth, but I stood outside and handed out about 5 magnets with the church website on it. That's almost all of the people that came too...

4) Everyone cooks their own dinners. In Rocky River members took us out more than we ate at their houses. I'd been to every restaurant around town at least twice by the time I left. It's nice to be able to be in people's homes actually and enjoy their company. Contrary to other's beliefs, we don't just go for the food. :)

That's all the random dumb things I've enjoyed. At least that I'm going to talk about today. I've realized I've asked 1 million random questions since I've been here, most of them not expecting answers*. I promised Sis. Olney I'm not always that random, but I don't think she believes me.

*(As soon as I wanted to say it I forgot the word. What's the word for a not-meaning-to-be-answered question?)

I'll give some more updates on the INV's next week. There's not a whole lot of changes.

Hey, and I always like advice. On anything...so send it my way.
Love,
Sister Salisbury
