Everything's raging in Ravenna. Transfers are officially tomorrow, but both Sister Olney and I will be staying in Ravenna. We're at the point where we've worked out all the knicks in working well together and we're ready to take off.
We've had a really good week and gotten a lot a few of our new investigators progressing. For awhile we've been wading in stale water. Teaching lessons, finding people, but nobody's really progressing steadily.
We decided that there's no need to beat around the bush and have been more upfront with our investigators during lessons. We all know that we leave commitments so that they will progress--learn more about the gospel, have a spiritual experience, gain a testimony etc. Commitments are important! But then I think a lot of us missionaries feel embarassed following up and having to check up on people. It's almost like we expect to "trick" people into progressing and desiring to be baptised. It doesn't work. Now, we let them know up front why we leave them commitments and why we check up on them daily. Seems obvious enough, but it takes work, and it makes a difference.
For this week's headliners we have:
Susan Miller: She's a friend of someone in another ward. We've had her info for awhile but couldn't meet with her until this last week. She is reading the Book of Mormon regularly, came to church, and loves everything. She's working on ordering a quad to be like the rest of us.
Jim Timberman: We ( I mean I...) mentioned him last week. He's great, came to church and enjoyed it. He reads the Book of Mormon when he's depressed and says it helps. It does.
Johnathan: He is reading and can liken all things to history that proves the things in the Book of Mormon. Hasn't come to church but fascinated with everything about it. Loves the idea of practical classes and talks...something to actually apply to your life and not just for kicks. He'll be there next next week. Hopefully. And I met the wolves. They've been raised 100% lovingly and "aren't violent." They're not bad, a little big and they shed, but i just hide behind Sister Olney.
Richard and sons: They've had several not-to-pleasant deaths in the family and have a lot of questions. One son, Raymond (age 11) asked lots of really good questions about the Plan of Salvation. He's amazing. They'll be at church this Sunday.
That's it for now. We're going bowling with the district and gotta cut out early. Thanks for all the emails. Sorry I've been slacking on the survey questions. I always run out of time. Feel free to leave answers though...to any question.
Love you all,
Sister Ruthie Salisbury
