So this is it. I opened my call with the family last night. I got it on Thursday but we decided to wait until Sunday to open it because my sister Karie was flying in that night and we figured it'd be a good opportunity to get the whole family together anyway. I was originally going to wait and find out along with the rest of them because I had only sent in my papers 10 days before I got it and the excitement of opening it hadn't really hit me yet. Then I decided that it was mine after all, and it would be affecting the course of my life more than anyone elses, so I probably deserved to have a little alone time contemplating what the Lord had in store for me. Plus, the nervousness sent in and I really really wanted to know.
So, after a raging Christmas shopping trip with Mom I came home to the envelope waiting on the kitchen counter. I took it, walked downstairs, said a quick prayer that I would know and accept wherever I was going as the right place for me, and opened it while sitting alone on my bed. It was nice to just be there with it in my hand knowing that the Lord has something for me that I can't even imagine. I did wish though that I'd taken a minute to make my bed first because I feel it would have added to the moment in one way or another.
And for what the paper says:
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints...in the Ohio Cleveland Mission. You should report to the MTC at Provo, Utah on Wednesday, 15 February 2006. You will prepare to preach the gospel in the English language.
That's most of the exciting stuff. But I read over it a few times, stuck it back in the envelope and proceeded about my day as if I hadn't read it yet. (I found that that's the best way to keep a secret, then you convince yourself you don't know either.)
I did though do a little research and found that the Cleveland Mission includes Kirtland too so that got a little more exciting. Turns out it also includes a teensie bit of Pennsylvania too. If you wanna, check out the mission map at the link above.
P.S. (are P.S.'s still in style..?)
Due to my poor comprehension of elementary geography, I didn't realize this, but mapquest says, as it turns out, it's about a 6.5 hour drive from my house. Now with the help of an insulated cooler, it's possible for my family to bring me warm food from home...

RUTHIE! That is so amazingly exciting! Congratulations! It will be a superb mission. Any missions in Chruch history esque places are bound to be tough, but cool. Kinda weird that you are so close to home, but exciting all the same! Make sure to post addresses and such!
